SCDNR plans to remove a 120-foot abandoned Navy boat from Bohicket Creek due to environmental and safety risks.
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) is set to remove a 120-foot former US Navy torpedo boat from Bohicket Creek on Tuesday.
The boat, abandoned and leaking oil near a private dock for years, poses environmental and navigational risks.
Its owner, Samuel Kodaimati, was arrested last month under the state's abandoned boat law.
The U.S. Coast Guard previously removed 3,500 gallons of hazardous oil from the vessel.
SCDNR highlights that such abandoned vessels can harm the environment and endanger boaters.
