Dublin pubs face cutting staff or ending food service if VAT rate relief is delayed until 2026.
More than 40% of Dublin's food-serving pubs may cut staff if the lower VAT rate is delayed until 2026, according to the Licensed Vintners Association (LVA).
The survey found that since the higher VAT rate was reinstated in September 2023, half of the pubs have seen a drop in food sales, with some experiencing a decline of over 10%.
Additionally, 10% of these pubs may stop food service entirely if the reduced VAT rate is not restored.
The LVA survey indicates that 92% of pubs want the 9% VAT rate reinstated, and 96% want it to be permanent.
