The Bayeux Tapestry, depicting the Norman conquest, will visit the UK from Sept 2026 to July 2027, its first UK trip in nearly 1,000 years.
The Bayeux Tapestry, a 70-meter-long medieval embroidery depicting the Norman conquest of England in 1066, will be exhibited at the British Museum from September 2026 to July 2027, marking its first visit to the UK in almost 1,000 years.
Commissioned by Bishop Odo, the tapestry, which has survived for centuries, including the French Revolution, is a symbol of Anglo-French history.
Its loan to the UK, announced during French President Emmanuel Macron's state visit, reflects improved relations between the two countries post-Brexit.
The Bayeux Museum, currently closed for a major renovation, will reopen in October 2027.
