Alberta MLA calls for shrinking rural electoral districts to improve representation.
Alberta MLA Glenn van Dijken is urging the province's electoral boundary commission to consider reducing the size of rural ridings rather than expanding them.
The boundaries haven't changed since 2019, and van Dijken argues that larger ridings make it difficult for one representative to effectively manage diverse industries and municipalities.
The current law stipulates ridings must stay within 25% of the provincial average of 54,929 registered voters.
