RAF jets caused a sonic boom across East England while intercepting a lost private jet.

On August 15, 2025, a loud sonic boom was heard across parts of the East of England, including Essex, Kent, Suffolk, and Cambridgeshire. The RAF scrambled Typhoon jets to intercept a private jet that had lost communication with air traffic control. The sonic boom, caused by the jets flying at supersonic speeds, led to some homes shaking. The private aircraft's communication was re-established, and it was safely escorted to Stansted Airport. The RAF has apologized for any inconvenience caused by the sonic boom.
