Six ex-leaders of the United Nation of Islam were sentenced to prison for forcing children into labor.
Six former leaders of the United Nation of Islam (UNOI) were sentenced for forced labor and conspiracy involving minors. The group, led by the late Royall Jenkins, forced members, including children as young as eight, to work up to 16 hours a day without pay in UNOI-owned businesses. Sentences ranged from four to ten years in prison, with additional supervised release. The FBI, Department of Labor, and New York State Department of Labor were involved in the investigation.
