Supreme Court pauses $6.5M sewage penalty for Delhi agencies, reviewing NGT order on pollution.
The Supreme Court has temporarily halted a National Green Tribunal (NGT) order that required the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to pay ₹50.44 crore for failing to prevent sewage pollution in the city’s drains and the Yamuna River.
The NGT had ordered the agencies to remove concrete covers and divert sewage-carrying drains.
The Supreme Court is now hearing the DJB and MCD's appeals against the substantial financial penalty.
