South Korea and the US will conduct joint military drills, Ulchi Freedom Shield, from August 18-28, focusing on threats from North Korea's nuclear and missile programs. About half of the planned field exercises have been postponed to September to ease tensions with North Korea. The drills, involving thousands of troops, are seen by North Korea as invasion rehearsals.
