Maharashtra plans to petition Supreme Court to return elephant Madhuri to Kolhapur.

The Maharashtra government plans to file a petition in the Supreme Court to bring back elephant Madhuri, also known as Mahadevi, from the Vantara sanctuary in Gujarat to her original home in Kolhapur. Vantara, which currently cares for Madhuri following a court order, has agreed to support the petition and assist in setting up a rehabilitation center near Nandani Math, chosen by the forest department. This comes after widespread protests in Kolhapur demanding the elephant's return.
