Australia has chosen Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to build a $10 billion fleet of frigates, marking the largest defense deal between the two countries. The Mogami-class frigates, chosen over German alternatives, offer better missile capabilities and cost efficiency over their lifespan. The first ship will be delivered in 2029, with some to be built domestically in Western Australia. These new frigates will replace the aging ANZAC-class frigates.
