Philippine election commission prepares for 2025 vote despite potential 2026 postponement.
The Philippine Commission on Elections (Comelec) is pushing ahead with preparations for the December 1, 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, despite pending legislation that could postpone the vote until November 2026.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia urges 15- to 17-year-olds to register to vote, as the law has not yet been officially changed.
The commission is also launching a voter registration program called SRAP, setting up booths in various locations to encourage more citizens to register, aiming for about a million new registrants.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is scheduled to sign the bill postponing the elections on August 12.
