Parents of 12-year-old Jaysen Carr, who died from a brain-eating amoeba after swimming in Lake Murray, South Carolina, are calling for more warnings about the risk. The amoeba, Naegleria fowleri, enters the body through the nose and causes a nearly always fatal infection. South Carolina, like most states, does not require public reporting of such infections. The Carr family hopes increased awareness will prevent future tragedies.
