China has launched an AI-based weather warning system called Mazu to aid developing nations in preparing for natural disasters.
Unveiled at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, Mazu is part of China's Belt and Road Initiative and aims to offer early warnings for extreme weather globally.
The China Meteorological Administration (CMA) is working with countries like Ethiopia and Pakistan to develop these systems and has already donated its Mazu-Urban systems to Djibouti and Mongolia, providing risk assessments and real-time monitoring through simple chat interfaces.
The CMA also introduced "Fengyu," the world's first full-chain AI forecasting model for space weather, to improve satellite communications and safety.
