Archaeologists identified a 1700s Royal Navy shipwreck, HMS Hind, off Orkney's coast.

Archaeologists have identified a 1700s shipwreck found in Orkney as the Earl of Chatham, formerly known as HMS Hind, a Royal Navy vessel that later became a whaling ship. The ship saw action in the sieges of Louisbourg and Quebec and the American Revolutionary War before sinking in 1788. Climate change exposed the wreck last year, and its timbers are now housed in a freshwater tank at the Sanday Heritage Centre for preservation.
