UK government grants £2.5M to Essar Energy Transition for planning a major Sustainable Aviation Fuel hub in Cheshire.

Essar Energy Transition (EET) has been granted £2.5 million by the UK government to plan one of the largest Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) hubs in the UK at Stanlow, Cheshire. The hub aims to produce 200,000 tons of SAF annually using renewable methanol, with plans to complete the design by March 2026 and make a final investment decision by late 2027. This project supports the UK's goal of reducing aviation emissions and meets the SAF mandate effective since January 2025.
