Cain Byrne sentenced to over 11 years for killing pedestrian while driving under nitrous oxide influence.
Twenty-year-old Cain Byrne has been sentenced to over 11 years in a young offender institution for killing 81-year-old Graham Slinn by driving under the influence of nitrous oxide.
Byrne, who had never held a driving license, ignored a red light and was speeding when he struck Slinn at a pedestrian crossing.
He inhaled nitrous oxide before and after the incident.
The judge deemed his actions exceptionally dangerous, and Byrne was banned from driving for almost 18 years.
Slinn's family called his death "100% avoidable."
