Indian government argues social media platforms can't claim individual rights, must control content.
The Centre has told the Karnataka High Court that social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) must not claim individual constitutional rights and should be regulated due to issues like cybercrime and evolving digital threats.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued that these platforms cannot claim protections under Article 19 for freedom of speech and must remove unlawful content to maintain their legal status.
The court is considering X Corp's challenge against certain regulations and will reconvene on July 18.
