Pakistan's rapid shift to solar energy, driven by high electricity costs and frequent power cuts, has made solar the largest source of energy, now at 24% of the country's energy mix. This shift has put pressure on the national grid and led to higher tariffs for remaining grid users. With the government facing $8 billion in power sector debt, it has imposed a 10% tax on imported solar equipment and considered reducing payments for excess solar energy from consumers.
