Former cotton grower sentenced to 9.5 years for $8.7 million fraud in irrigation project.
Former Queensland cotton grower John Douglas Norman has been sentenced to 9.5 years in prison for defrauding an irrigation project by $8.7 million.
Norman admitted guilt to six counts of fraud, involving false claims submitted to the Healthy Headwaters Water Use Efficiency project between 2010 and 2017.
His chief financial officer, Stephen Evans, received a suspended sentence of four years and six months.
The project aimed to assist irrigation communities in dealing with climate change and water scarcity.
Norman will be eligible for parole on June 24, 2028.
