Thai police arrest woman accused of extorting millions from Buddhist monks through blackmail.

Thai police have arrested Wilawan Emsawat, who allegedly seduced and blackmailed Buddhist monks into making large payments to cover up their intimate relationships. This has led to at least nine abbots and senior monks being disrobed. Emsawat, charged with extortion, money laundering, and receiving stolen goods, reportedly received around 385 million baht ($11.9 million) over three years, mostly spent on online gambling. The scandal has prompted calls for tighter laws and increased transparency in temple finances.
