A study from Nationwide Children's Hospital found a 760% increase in nicotine pouch poisonings among young children from 2020 to 2023. These pouches, which contain high concentrations of nicotine, are twice as likely to cause serious medical effects and hospitalization compared to other nicotine products. The study analyzed over 134,000 cases of nicotine exposure in children under six, with most incidents occurring at home. Researchers recommend keeping these products out of reach and educating caregivers to prevent accidental ingestion.
