Canada extends employment insurance benefits until Oct 11, 2022, to help workers affected by the U.S. trade war.
The Canadian government is extending temporary changes to its employment insurance (EI) program, originally introduced in March, until October 11, 2022, to support workers affected by the trade war with the U.S.
The measures, which help businesses retain workers by compensating them for lost wages when hours are reduced, include an extra four weeks of benefits and a lower threshold of 630 hours to qualify for EI.
This extension aims to assist 290,000 workers and was announced alongside a $6.5 billion aid package to help businesses cope with the trade conflict.
