India grants tax benefits for bonds funding renewable energy to boost green investments.
The Indian government has given tax-saving status to bonds issued by the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA).
This move, under Section 54EC of the Income Tax Act, allows investors to get tax exemptions on capital gains when they invest in these bonds.
The initiative aims to encourage more private investments in renewable energy projects and help India achieve its target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.
