flag California CHP distributes $35M in grants to fight drunk driving, funded by cannabis taxes.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has distributed over $35 million in grants to nearly 150 law enforcement agencies for anti-DUI operations and educational campaigns. These grants, funded by cannabis sales taxes under Prop 64 approved in 2016, will support toxicology lab analysis, high-density patrols, and public service announcements. Eight Riverside County agencies are among the recipients. The CHP will reopen the grant application process in early 2026.
