Rare Roman cavalry swords lead to discovery of an extensive ancient settlement near Cotswolds.
An Iron Age Roman settlement near a Cotswolds village was discovered after rare Roman cavalry swords were found by a metal detectorist.
The swords, dating from the second to third century AD, were donated to the Corinium Museum and could be on display from August 2.
Excavations revealed evidence of settlements spanning several centuries, including Iron Age ring ditches and Roman limestone buildings, possibly a villa.
Historic England may recommend the site be protected as a scheduled monument.
