Iraq nears deal with US firm to establish its first LNG import terminal, boosting its power sector.
Iraq is nearing the establishment of its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal through talks with US-based Excelerate Energy.
The project, overseen by the state-run South Gas Company, involves setting up a floating storage and regasification unit at the Khor Al-Zubair port in Basra.
If completed, the terminal will allow Iraq to import, store, and convert LNG into natural gas for its power sector.
Discussions are reportedly in an advanced stage.
