US researchers have developed an AI tool called StateViewer that can detect nine types of dementia from a single brain scan. Trained on over 3,600 scans, it accurately diagnoses dementia in 88% of cases, interpreting scans nearly twice as fast and up to three times more accurately than traditional methods. The tool compares a fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) scan to a database of confirmed dementia cases to identify matching patterns, aiding early detection and diagnosis.
