Kentucky expands Chronic Wasting Disease surveillance, adding three counties and new hunting rules.
Kentucky has expanded its Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) surveillance zone to include Henderson, Union, and Webster counties, due to a CWD-positive deer found in Indiana.
This adds to the existing surveillance area and introduces new regulations like mandatory testing for hunters, limits on carcass transport, and a ban on deer rehabilitation.
Baiting is allowed in all affected counties during the 2025-2026 deer season, with a special antlerless-only gun season scheduled for September.
CWD, fatal for deer, is caused by prions and cannot be cured or vaccinated against.
