New "Trojan horse" cancer treatment approved in England, offering hope to blood cancer patients.
Blood cancer patients in England will be among the first in the world to receive a new "Trojan horse" treatment, belantamab mafodotin (Blenrep), after it was approved by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (Nice) for NHS use.
The targeted therapy, made by GlaxoSmithKline, can stop myeloma from progressing nearly three times longer than existing treatments.
Given as an infusion every three weeks, the drug works by entering cancer cells and releasing a lethal molecule to destroy them from the inside.
This innovative treatment is expected to offer hope to thousands of patients.
