flag Scientists discover new tyrannosaur species in Mongolia, a "missing link" to T. rex.

Scientists have identified a new dinosaur species named Khankhuuluu mongoliensis, which is closely related to the Tyrannosaurus rex. The fossils, found in Mongolia’s Gobi Desert in the 1970s, were reexamined and revealed the species to be a "missing link" between smaller tyrannosaurs and the massive predators like T. rex. Khankhuuluu mongoliensis, estimated to have lived around 86 million years ago, weighed about 750 kg and was smaller than T. rex. This discovery provides new insights into the evolution of tyrannosaurs and their migration patterns between Asia and North America during the late Cretaceous period.
