Japan complains to China over near-collisions with fighter jets in the Pacific, amid rising tensions.

Japan has lodged a complaint to China following incidents where Chinese fighter jets flew close to Japanese patrol planes in the Pacific over the weekend. The Chinese jets followed the Japanese P-3C plane for 40 minutes on Saturday and 80 minutes on Sunday at a distance of about 45 meters. Japan claims these maneuvers were deliberate and potentially dangerous. Beijing, however, has accused Japan of conducting "dangerous behavior" through close reconnaissance flights. Recent tensions include sightings of two Chinese aircraft carriers in the Pacific.
