India approves railway projects worth ₹6,405 crore to boost connectivity and freight traffic.
The Indian Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved two railway projects worth ₹6,405 crore. These projects will double the Koderma-Barkakana (133 km) and Ballari-Chikjajur (185 km) railway lines in Jharkhand, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. They aim to increase the Indian Railways network by 318 km, enhancing connectivity to around 1,408 villages and generating direct employment. The projects will improve the transportation of goods like coal, iron ore, and cement, boosting freight traffic by 49 MTPA and contributing to climate goals by reducing logistics costs and CO2 emissions.
