Maruti Suzuki cuts production of its first electric vehicle due to rare earth shortages.
Maruti Suzuki, India's top carmaker, has cut its production target for its first electric vehicle, the e-Vitara, by two-thirds due to a global shortage of rare earth materials.
The company now plans to produce around 8,200 units between April and September, down from an initial target of 26,500, because of China's export restrictions on rare earths.
Despite the setback, Maruti aims to produce 67,000 EVs by March 2026.
