The national average asking rent in Canada fell by 3.3% in May to $2,129, marking eight consecutive months of year-over-year decreases.
Purpose-built apartment rents dropped 2% to $2,117, while condo rents fell 3.6% to $2,192.
The decline is attributed to a surge in new apartment supply, slower population growth, and economic uncertainty.
Despite the decreases, rents are 5.7% higher than two years ago and 12.6% above three years ago.
