Farmed seafood production has surged, with nearly 99 million tonnes of fish and aquatic animals farmed globally in 2023, up five times from three decades ago. This growth responds to overfishing and makes aquaculture a critical food source, especially in Asia, which produces 92% of farmed fish and most of the world's seaweed. Seaweed production has nearly tripled over two decades and is used in various industries, absorbing CO2 and pollutants.
