Pakistan approves a Rs 4,224 billion development budget for 2025-2026, aiming for 4.2% GDP growth.
The National Economic Council (NEC) in Pakistan, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has approved a national development budget of Rs 4,224 billion for fiscal year 2025-2026, including Rs 1,000 billion for federal development.
The budget also sets a GDP growth target of 4.2% and an export target of $35 billion.
The council, attended by chief ministers of the provinces, reviewed the national development plan, PSDP, and macroeconomic goals.
Additionally, the federal budget for the next fiscal year is estimated at Rs 17,500 billion, with plans to increase taxes on share dividends and small vehicles.
The IMF has instructed strict austerity measures, including a ban on new vehicle purchases for federal ministries.
