Nigerian authorities have dismantled a drug smuggling syndicate that used Hajj pilgrims as drug couriers to transport cocaine to Saudi Arabia.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested three leaders of the syndicate and two pilgrims at Kano airport, recovering 1.04kg of cocaine.
In a separate incident, a 60-year-old businessman was also arrested for attempting to transport 1.41kg of cocaine.
The NDLEA seized opioids worth billions in a related operation.
