India's coal production rose 3.4% in May 2025 to 86.24 million tonnes, despite Coal India reporting a 1.4% production decrease to 63.5 million tonnes. Captive and commercial mines saw a significant 24.57% increase in production. Coal dispatches and stocks held by companies also increased by 13.8% and 29.18%, respectively. Coal India's coal offtake fell 7.8% to 64 million tonnes. The company aims to produce 875 million tonnes in the next fiscal year.
