NHS introduces faster lung cancer blood test, potentially aiding 15,000 patients annually.
The NHS in England is rolling out a new blood test, known as a liquid biopsy, which can detect lung cancer mutations faster, potentially helping about 15,000 patients annually.
This test uses a blood sample to identify tumor DNA, avoiding the need for tissue biopsies and speeding up access to targeted treatments by about 16 days.
It could also be used for breast, pancreatic, and gallbladder cancers, and is projected to save the NHS up to £11 million a year in lung cancer care.
