Bones found on New Jersey beaches identified as 19th-century Captain Henry Goodsell using DNA.
Skeletal remains found on New Jersey beaches over two decades have been identified as those of Captain Henry Goodsell, who died when his ship, the Oriental, sank off Brigantine in 1844.
Using advanced DNA technology, Ramapo College students matched the bones to Goodsell, marking one of the oldest cold cases solved with genetic genealogy.
His remains will stay in a state repository as his family declined to claim them.
