Slovak central bank governor convicted of bribery, fined €200,000 for influencing tax audits.
Slovakia's central bank governor, Peter Kažimír, a member of the European Central Bank committee, was convicted of bribery and fined €200,000 ($225,000).
He was accused of paying €48,000 ($54,000) to the head of the tax office to influence tax audits of private companies.
Kažimír, who served as finance minister from 2012 to 2019 under Prime Minister Robert Fico, denies the charges and plans to appeal.
