Irish rape crisis center reports record contacts, counselling sessions surge amid rising support-seeking.
In 2024, the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre (DRCC) saw a record 22,700 contacts to their helpline, marking a 22% increase from the previous year.
The therapy service reported a 57% rise in counselling sessions, totaling nearly 6,000.
The increase is attributed to survivors feeling more confident in seeking non-judgmental support, as well as the ongoing prevalence of sexual violence in Ireland.
The majority of contacts were from women, with Dublin seeing the highest number of calls, though 42% came from outside the capital.
