Japan mandates major companies to join carbon trading to cut emissions, starting April 2026.
Japan has enacted a law requiring around 300 to 400 major companies, responsible for nearly 60% of the country's greenhouse gas emissions, to join a carbon emissions trading system from April 2026.
These companies will receive a maximum emission allowance, and any excess emissions will require the purchase of additional carbon credits, while surplus credits can be sold.
This initiative aims to reduce emissions and promote a low-carbon economy.
