Kerala, India, is on high alert after the Liberian-flagged MSC ELSA 3, carrying 640 containers including hazardous materials, sank off its coast. All 24 crew members were rescued, but concerns over an oil spill and hazardous materials washing ashore prompted the government to warn residents and fishermen to stay away from the containers. The Coast Guard deployed pollution control equipment and an oil spill detection system.
