Former U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel, a 94-year-old Harlem Democrat and founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus, has passed away. Rangel served nearly five decades in Congress, becoming the first African American to chair the Ways and Means Committee. Despite facing ethics violations and censure, he remained a prominent figure in civil rights and social justice issues until his retirement in 2017.
