Survey shows Canadians empathize with Alberta's desire for independence but most don't support it.
A recent Leger survey of 1,537 Canadians found that 55% understand Alberta's desire for independence, though only 26% support the province becoming an independent country.
The poll indicated that 70% of Albertans see reasons for their province’s potential separation.
While 43% of Conservative supporters back the idea, support is much lower in other regions, with only 14% in British Columbia, 22% in Ontario, and 29% in Quebec supporting separation.
The survey suggests empathy for Albertans but indicates widespread skepticism about the benefits of separation.
