The U.S. Department of Justice has indicted Russian national Rustam Rafailevich Gallyamov for leading a cybercrime ring that developed Qakbot malware, which infected over 700,000 computers and was used to deploy ransomware. Gallyamov, 48, faces charges of conspiracy to commit computer fraud and wire fraud, with potential sentences of up to 25 years. The Justice Department also seeks to forfeit over $24 million in cryptocurrency linked to the scheme. Gallyamov is believed to be in Russia and remains at large.
