India's finished steel imports fell by 11.3% in April to 0.5 million metric tons, due to a 12% temporary tariff imposed to curb cheap imports, mainly from China. Imports from China and Japan dropped by 26.5% and 60% respectively, while South Korea's exports to India increased by 2.4%. Despite these changes, India remains a net importer of steel, with exports declining by 25.7%.
