Stormont rejects PSNI's plan to boost officer numbers to 7,000 due to budget concerns.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland’s (PSNI) plan to increase officer numbers to 7,000 with a £200m budget has been rejected by the Stormont Department of Finance.
Chief Constable Jon Boutcher proposed the plan to address underfunding since 2010, which has led to the lowest number of officers in the PSNI’s 24-year history.
The Police Federation expressed disappointment, saying the decision shows a lack of concern for public safety.
