India launches wooden ship Kaundinya, built with ancient techniques, on a voyage from Gujarat to Oman.
The Indian Navy has inducted a traditionally built wooden ship named Kaundinya, inspired by a 5th-century painting from Ajanta Caves.
Constructed using ancient stitching techniques by artisans from Kerala, the 21-meter vessel will embark on a transoceanic voyage from Gujarat to Oman, replicating an ancient maritime route.
Funded by the Ministry of Culture, the project also involved the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras to ensure the ship's seaworthiness.
